Meet Dr. Leigha M. Nielsen! Originally from Texas, Dr. Nielsen is excited to be working as a fill-in doctor at Boulder Valley Vision Therapy as a new resident of Colorado. She brings over a decade of experience as a developmental optometrist, specializing in neuro-optometry and vision therapy. After graduating with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry, she founded High5 Vision in Texas, where she built a thriving practice focused on vision development and education.
Dr. Nielsen is a fellow of the Optometric Vision Development & Rehabiliation Association and holds memberships in several professional associations, including the American and Texas Optometric Associations and the Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association. She provides comprehensive eye care for all ages, with expertise in specialty contact lenses, amblyopia, strabismus, brain injury, and pediatric vision development.
Passionate about community and family, Dr. Nielsen is often found volunteering in schools, helping with vision screenings, or playing tennis. She’s dedicated to helping patients understand their vision and takes the time to explain exam results, treatment options, and answer questions.

Jennifer S. Simonson, OD, FCOVD, FAAO is a 2003 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). She is a member of the Colorado and American Optometric Associations and the Optometric Extension Program Foundation. Dr. Simonson was the recipient of the 2007 Colorado Young Optometrist of the Year. She is acting chair of the International Examination and Certification Board (IECB), the speaker chair of the Colorado Vision Training Conference planning committee, and enjoys public speaking. Her primary interests in practice include pediatric vision care, vision therapy, sports therapy, and vision rehabilitation. Dr. Simonson was a co-founder of Gerull Labs (g-labs) that developed the Opto App and Stereoscope for iPad in 2014. Dr. Simonson is the author of several children’s books about vision therapy: “My Perfect Vision” (June 2016), “My Double Vision” (December 2016), "My Jumbled Vision" (July 2017) and "My Mismatched Vision" (August 2018).
