Krystal Hanegan is nearing the completion of her degree in early childhood education. She has worked in the field of vision therapy for the last three years, previously working with a leading optometrist in the Oklahoma City area. Krystal has received her certification through the College of Optometrists in Vision Development as a cnationally recognized Optometric Vision Therapist. In her free time, Krystal enjoys serving at her church, taking pictures, and has recently finished writing her first children's book. She hopes to eventually develop an entire set of children's books with her husband. She has been married for four years and welcomed Samuel on September 7, 2008 (he did great at his InfantSEE exam!). Krystal loves being part of a team who works so hard to improve the lives of children and adults on a daily basis. In 2009, Krystal completed the Certified Optometric Vision Therapist process at the College of Optometrists in Vision Development annual meeting. Gail Henry, BS, COVTVision Therapist
Gail K. Henry, BS, earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Wayne State University in Michigan. She has lived in Michigan, New York, Kansas, Utah, New Hampshire and Colorado. In Kansas, Gail taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics. In Utah, she worked as a Chapter I reading tutor and as a teacher's aide for 5th grade students with learning disabilities. Gail balances her life with working out, quilting, gardening, and fishing. She and her husband have two daughters and two granddaughters. After fourteen years of office work in Denver as an Associate Financial Representative with a life insurance company, Gail is delighted to have an opportunity to be a part of an outstanding vision therapy team that focuses on inspiring and assisting children to make positive changes in their lives. Gail completed her certification process at the 2009 annual meeting of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, achieving designation as a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist. Barbara Nelson, BS, COVTVision Therapist
Barbara Nelson, BS, has a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Western Illinois. She has continued graduate studies at Northern Illinois University, University of Hawaii, California State University and UCLA. She spent twenty-two years teaching Science and Math to kindergarten through sixth grade students at a private school in Santa Monica. Barbara has become a member of the College or Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). She truly enjoys working with children and adults, making the transition from teaching to vision therapy. Barbara achieved Certified Optometric Vision Therapist status at the 2009 College of Optometrists in Vision Development meeting in Denver, CO. Amy Zeiger, BA, COVT
Amy Zeiger, BA, COVT received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She has worked in the Optometric industry for the past seven years and earned her nationally recognized certification as an Optometric Vision Therapist in 2009. Amy has been a member of COVD for the last two years and has completed continuing education at the Colorado Vision Summit and at the COVD annual meeting in areas ranging from Autism to Strabismus. Amy's introduction to Vision Therapy started when she was in sixth grade and tested at a third grade reading level. After two months of Vision Therapy, Amy was at grade level with 100% comprehension. Amy returned to Vision Therapy at the age of nineteen, when she sustained a traumatic brain injury from a car accident. Even reading three lines on a page was challenging and her neurologist told Amy she would never work or go to school. After six months of Vision Therapy, she returned to college and finished her Bachelor's degree. Amy published her story in Vision's newsletter and it is available on the Boulder Valley Vision Therapy webpage under "Success Stories". Andrea McElroy, BSVision Therapist
Andrea McElroy, BS, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. She tutors Math and Science and has been a substitute teacher for grades 6th-8th in Chengdu, China and at the Bridge School here in Boulder. Her spare time is devoted to volunteering with Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy for the Disabled where she works with disabled adults and children on horseback. She is excited to be working along with a great team in an environment where children are offered to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. We are wishing Andrea the best in Fall 2010 when she leaves to pursue her Masters Degree.
